It probably goes without saying based on nearly every recipe on this site that I have a great love for all things coconut! Coconut butter, milk, flakes, flour, oil…you name it! I consider all of it equally amazing, healthy, and nommy!
So, you can imagine how excited I was when I received an email from Tropical Traditions asking if I would be interested in reviewing their Golden Label Virgin Coconut Oil!
You bet I would!! 🙂
After all, when I first began using coconut oil it was the Tropical Traditions’ site that helped truly educate me on all of the oil’s amazing benefits and uses.
If you haven’t yet perused their site, you must! It is chock-full of information regarding the many uses of coconut oil as well as its incredible health benefits.
I’ve used other brands of virgin coconut oil as well, and while I haven’t found one yet that I disliked by any means, I can honestly say that Tropical Traditions is a cut above the rest! For one thing, it has a noticeably richer taste with a bit more depth, yet also isn’t overly coconutty…it’s the best of both worlds!
Plus, I feel really good knowing how extremely unprocessed their oil is, and how hard they work to keep it that way. This is something that definitely makes them stand out from other companies in my book. Just check out this info straight from their website:
This Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil is a truly unrefined coconut oil. This coconut oil is made on Mt. Banahaw and surrounding areas from organic coconuts. Coconuts are used fresh (within 24-48 hours of harvest) from small family farms on Mt. Banahaw and other rural places in Quezon Province, the coconut capital of the Philippines. Only the highest quality coconuts are hand-picked from each harvest. The volcanic soil of Mt. Banahaw makes these organic coconuts some of the most nutritionally rich coconuts in the world! Testing done in independent laboratories on coconut oil antioxidants reveals higher levels of phenolic antioxidants than other coconut oils. The fresh coconut meat is shredded (wet milled), and then cold-pressed using the water from inside the coconuts to make coconut milk. The milk is then allowed to sit for about half a day, while the oil naturally separates from the heavier water. The oil is then filtered from the curds (coconut solids). No chemical or high-heat treatment is used, and this oil contains no trans fatty acids. We do NOT mass produce this oil. It is made by families who are coconut farmers using old-fashioned traditional methods that have been used in the Philippines for hundreds of years.
Okay, okay…so some of you that are new to coconut oil may be wondering, what all can I DO with it?? Well, the better question may be: what can’t you do with it??
Seriously, the possibilities are nearly endless!
I use coconut oil as the primary healthy fat/oil source in all of my cooking and baking. You can use it just as you would butter or oil. As a side note, I like saving my extra virgin olive oil for recipes that don’t require heat (e.g. salad dressing, hummus, pesto), as olive oil is super healthy and nommy, but not nearly as heat stable as coconut oil.
Plus, the greatness of coconut oil doesn’t stop in the kitchen. I also like to keep a jar in my bathroom, as it works wonders on your skin and hair! A NomEatNom reader also let me know that she gave coconut oil to her dog daily to help him beat cancer! It really is amazing stuff! 🙂
Basically, I highly, highly recommend this product!
