Move over Cherry Garcia, there’s a new sweet treat in town.
That’s right.
An all-natural treat — with none of the dangers of guar gum, carrageenan, soy lecithin, or the ever-ambiguous “natural flavor,” that you’ll find in the store-bought version.
On the contrary, this sweet little dish not only avoids all processed ingredients, but it’s also filled with a plethora of healthy nutrients that will do your body good!
We’ve already discussed the amazing health benefits that come with yogurt, and most are aware of the wonderful antioxidants that come with cacao…but what about cherries??
You’ll be happy to know that they don’t disappoint. In fact, did you know that cherries help fight cancer, offer pain-relief from arthritis and gout, eliminate oxidative stress to prevent premature aging, and help cure migraines?! Plus, cherries are rich in melatonin, so they improve your body’s circadian rhythms and help you sleep!
I think we can all agree this is a frozen treat worth nomming!!
Oh, and did I mention its mind-blowingly delicious, too?! 😉
What are you waiting for?? Go ahead and give your taste buds and your body what they deserve!
Cherry Chocolate Frozen Yogurt
(Serves 2)
Ingredients:
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (make your own!)
- 1 cup frozen cherries
- 1/4 cup date sugar
- 1/2 tsp. fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp. pure almond extract
- 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- 1/8 cup raw cacao nibs, plus a bit extra for sprinkling (sub with dark chocolate chips, if you prefer)
Combine about 3/4 of the cherries and all of the date sugar in a small bowl and allow to set for five to ten minutes.
Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, mix together the Greek yogurt, lemon juice, and extracts.
Add the cherry mixture to the yogurt mixture, and stir until well-combined.
Place the mixture in your ice cream maker (here’s mine), and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Add the cacao nibs in the last five minutes of churning. Allow to churn until your desired consistency is met.
Divide the frozen yogurt into two dishes and garnish with the remaining cherries and extra cacao nibs, if desired.
If you are feeling extra decadent, you may even want to top each serving with a spoonful or two of Homemade Chocolate Magic Shell.
